The School Council, staff and students express our deepest sympathy to the victims and families affected by the recent Manchester bombing on the 22nd May 2017.
Kensington Community High School (KCHS) has existed as an alternative setting to mainstream secondary schools since 1975.
KCHS is located in the relatively central location of Flemington, yet the school’s student cohort attends from an extensive, larger area of the northern and western suburbs including Broadmeadows, Jacana, Werribee, Laverton, Melton, Hoppers Crossing, St Albans and Dalahey. Some students come from as far as Sunbury, Broadford, and Avenel. KCHS’s role has been to provide an alternative educational setting for secondary aged students who are vulnerable not completing secondary education due to un-met personal, interpersonal and learning needs.
KCHS is situated on the 151 year-old Newmarket Saleyards in the original administration building. Classrooms are physically small which is restrictive, however the school makes use of the local community facilities including libraries, sports stadia, outdoor environments and a local business as part of an Advance programme.
KCHS’s enrolment profile traditionally differs from most other secondary schools. Enrolments are accepted throughout the year to support students and families seeking an alternative setting to their local, mainstream school.
The enrolment number varies between 85 to 100 students.
Students are divided in to five teams: three junior years groups and two senior years groups.
At KCHS we only offer VCAL at the senior levels.
Our school values are CARES. Community, Achievement, Respect Effort and Safety is the basis of our welfare and engagement and wellbeing programmes and processes.
