Positive Behavior

Student Welfare
Kensington Community High School has a strong emphasis on the welfare and wellbeing of all students through its commitment to the Positive Behaviors in Schools (PBiS) Model and KCHS’s five Core Values of Community, Achievement, Respect, Effort and Safety (CARES).
The aim of the Welfare Team is to promote a calm, predictable, routine based environment that supports student attendance, engagement and learning. This is achieved through working holistically with the student, teachers, families and carers, and external support services. The Welfare Team provide an integrated range of services designed to meet the individual needs of students. This includes assessment, case management and referral to external services through the Brief Intervention Model.

Integrated Service Model
The Welfare Team comprises of one full time Youth Worker, one part time Social Worker, and a School Nurse. The Welfare Team in partnership with RMIT and Deakin Universities allocate Social Work Students to groups so as to support students in their learning, engagement and wellbeing. In addition, La Trobe University provide a Masters of Art Therapy Student who offers an alternative approach to engaging students, and Melbourne University provide a Masters of Educational Psychology Student who provides individual councelling and assessment.  KCHS in conjunction with the Psychology Clinic, provide an external Clinical Psychologist who attends KCHS weekly. Their role is to provide support for diagnosed mental health related issues.
