School Wide Positive Behaviour Support (SWPBS)

School-wide positive behaviour support is a framework that brings together school

communities to develop positive, safe and supportive learning cultures.

What is SWPBS?

SWPBS assists schools to improve social, emotional, behavioural and academic outcomes for children and young people.

When SWPBS is implemented well, teachers and students have more time to focus on

relationships and classroom instruction. Students and staff benefit from:

  • increased respectful and positive behaviour

  • increased time focused on instruction

  • improved social-emotional wellbeing

  • positive and respectful relationships among students and staff

What does SWPBS look like at KCHS?

Kensington Community High School’s values consist of CARES; Community, Achievement, Respect, Effort and Safety. These values shape our school and the way we function as a community.

Educators within the community must be aware of the following practices:

Green Slip Awards – Green slips are placed in all KCHS classrooms. These slips are used as motivational and behavioural incentives and are awarded to students displaying our values in and outside the classroom.

Green slips are placed in a raffle that rewards students with weekly acknowledgments during assembly. All green slips are collected throughout the year and go into an end of year draw with prizes attached.
